Where Are They Now? – Issue 9

This Month: Tortoise-shell butterflies.
Once as frequent as buses and trains, these beautiful, delicate and seemingly pointless creatures are conspicuous by their absence. In fact, you see more Middlesbrough goals than these wonderfully colourful winged palates.
Why? Habitat. No, not the chain store; the fact that the habitat of such eco sensitive creatures has been decimated over the period of my lifetime to the point of extinction. In this value-ridden present, I can hear you asking the obvious question: So, what? Well, I’ll answer it thus: I’d much rather marvel at a butterfly than see butter get lighter by FTX.
